After the Deluge

It rained yesterday. A tree fell across the driveway, blocking Peaches and Granny in. A tree fell across our road, a mile from our house, blocking me from getting home and cutting them out. The wind blew the carport over, flipping it off the truck. The wind also blew the gazebo around on the deck. When we all managed to get home, we put on grubbies and, in the failing light, cut a path wide enough for the cars to get through.

The power was out until 3 this morning. Of course, we are totally prepared for that.

We did capture almost 400 gallons of rainwater into the cistern. So that's a good deal!

Today, the high school is open but the elementary school is closed. I've stayed home from work to take care of some much-needed immediate chores, and the Badb is helping.

So far, we've put a tarp over one end of the chicken yard (brown side out, to be a tiny bit less ugly than last year, with the blue tarp) to give the chickens some rain shelter. We cleared leaves out of the storm drain on the uphill side of the house. We moved the gazebo back to where it ought to be.

Check out the chicken feed! Now the chickens can scratch around even in the rain!

Still to be done today: cut away more tree, fully clearing the driveway, and right the carport.
