Regular Expressions to the Rescue
From time to time, and increasingly frequently at this time of year, my dear wife has to send out emails to big segments of her company's customer base. That's her job, after all. However, for reasons that are outside the scope of this blog, the list of customers doesn't always have an email for each customer and, for various other reasons, the email addresses are not always well-formed. It takes her several hours each time to go through the list and manually screen them all. I like to see my wife, though, so I spent a little time coding up a Java application that checks each record for the presence of a well-formed email address.
So now, I'm at a bit of a crossroads. Do I just upload this source, make it public, and give it away? Do I polish the program up a bit and offer it as shareware or maybe sell it as commercial software? On one hand, I know this program is totally useful for my family. We get to see more of Junglemonkey now. On the other hand, I wonder how many other people out there want this program. How many people would pay $10 so they don't have to write the same thing?
